I’m looking forward to meet…

and host the cycling community in my homeregion of Arnhem and Nijmegen. During the years I have been working and traveling all around to world on cycling issues and it is a privilege to host the world’s cycling community in my hometown.

I will definitely not miss…

  • the outdoor sessions with guidance by experts, we are bringing the city into the conference, during the outdoor sessions you can learn and discuss from good (and bad!) practices;
  • cycling highway stories of Arnhem and Nijmegen. I have been working in the last few years on developing these world-class cycling highways with innovative designs and priority for cyclists on long stretches of the cycling highways;
  • the CROW-sessions, where discussions on traffic design, policy development and network development will be facilitated; guided by the new design manual for cycling infrastructure.

Velo-city 2017 Arnhem-Nijmegen is special because…

cycling is coming home. Home to an urban region with two mid-sized cities, home to liveable and human-sized cities. But also home to the first fully developed network of cycling highways in the Netherlands (and maybe the world) which we connect sub-urban towns, cities and villages to each others. Cycling highways where cycling is made easy and with the littlestt effort, enjoy cycling.

When I’m not in sessions, you’ll find me…

in the program room because we will be making sure that the program goes smoothly.

The first thing on my Velo-city to-do list is…

checking the list again. Do we have everything? With 60 parallel sessions, 16 plenary sessions and 30 outdoor sessions this will be the biggest Velo-city ever to be organized.
